About Justice Policy Group
Justice Policy Group was founded in 2021 by Amanda Burgess-Proctor. She holds a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University and until recently was an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at Oakland University. After two decades of working in academia, she wished to create innovative new opportunities to partner with legislators and policymakers on the creation of fairer and more just crime and drug laws. And so, Justice Policy Group was born.
Amanda Burgess-Proctor, Ph.D. is an expert in gender-based violence and evidence-based crime and drug policy. Her widely-cited research has appeared in top academic journals, earning her membership in the Crime & Justice Research Alliance. She is a consultant with the Center for Behavioral Health & Justice at Wayne State University. In 2019 she was appointed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer to chair the Michigan Criminal Justice Policy Commission, and she is a 2019 fellow of the Michigan Political Leadership Program, the nation's only bipartisan public policy leadership curriculum. In 2018 she helped develop a Congressional Briefing on Capitol Hill aimed at improving justice for women and girls, and co-edited the resulting special issue of Translational Criminology, the magazine of the Center for Evidence-Based Crime Policy.
